Porthtowan Defibrillators

Porthtowan residents and the wider village community have raised funds to have two defibrillators installed in the village. One on the Village Hall, opposite the phone box as we have very little phone signal. The other on Porthtowan SLSC building on the beach.

Over time the cabinets that house the defibrillators have become rusty due to our Atlantic breezes. There was enough left in the kitty to replace one cabinet which has a guarantee of ten years.

Cornwall Councillor Pete Mitchell suggested we apply to his Community Chest fund for the other cabinet. Porthtowan Beach Association applied for the cabinet cost of £667. In early February we found out from Elisabeth Allcorn, Communities Support Assistant at Cornwall Council that we were awarded the full amount.

We will order the new cabinet as soon as the funds are with the Porthtowan Beach Association. Many thanks to Anna Shekhdar for her tireless fundraising, ordering both defibrillators and cabinets and ongoing checking of the defibrillators, Pete Mitchell for his Community Chest and Cornwall Council for the funds.
