Porthtowan Beach is a very special place. It has proved to be a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. We are fortunate in having a vibrant local community who care passionately about ensuring the beach and beach area is looked after. This web site showcases our Community Champions and the work they are doing for the benefit of us all. The site is also a means to communicate to visitors and locals what we have to offer.

Porthtowan Seed

This web site is administered by the Porthtowan Beach Association (PBA). The Association directly supports the activities of both the Beach Awards Team and the Access for All Team. These teams are subgroups of the PBA. The PBA is supported by a wide membership of both individuals and Business Sponsors. Individual membership is just £5 per year and anyone, anywhere can be a member. (PDF of Constitution)

Porthtowan Blue Flag

The Beach Awards Team is focused on ensuring Porthtowan achieves the Blue Flag Award and possibly the Seaside Award every year in recognition of its great beach, exceptionally clean water and facilities such as toilets and car parking. To do this we not only need to raise the application fee each year but we also need to ensure our community undertakes various green, eco, sustainable initiatives in order to support the Blue Flag application. The Blue Flag is not just about a blue flag, not just about a great beach, not just about clean water, it’s all about a whole package of benefits and initiatives that are focused on the beach area.

The Access for All Team is currently undertaking a study and costings to establish the feasibility of ensuring access to the beach for those in the community with disabilities.

Porthtowan’s beach is arguably its greatest asset. As a community we need to raise £2200 each year for the Blue Flag and Seaside Award application fees along with new signage. We also need to start to raise funds for a disabled ramp on to the beach. We are prepared to support any initiative, which has our membership support, which is focused on beach improvement. We have a growing list of Sponsors who are featured on this site and we would like to encourage individuals to become members of the Association.

Your £5 per year membership fee means that we can achieve so much more. There is no charge for local community groups to advertise/feature on this website and we hope that more businesses in the village will see the benefit of sponsoring this very worthwhile local cause and get listed.
