Fantastic Achievement Day for the Community of Porthtowan by the Community of Porthtowan
Members of the Porthtowan Beach Association(PBA) along with local business sponsors, Cornwall Council Officers, Parish Councillors and special guest Peter Norfolk(Paralympian Tennis Gold Medal Winner) gathered together at the Blue Bar to hoist the Blue Flag and Seaside Award Flags for 2016.
James Nicholls of Sharps Brewery(second left) has sponsored Porthtowan’s Blue Flag and a number of other Blue Flag beaches in Cornwall.
This is the culmination of months of hard work by the members of the PBA working alongside the local businesses and council officers to bring improvements to the village and maintain a standard expected by beach users during both the holiday and out of season periods.
The PBA is also committed to Access for All and Peter Norfolk is seen below helping to test phase one of a ramp which will help gain access to the beach for wheelchair users or the less mobile in our community. He’s seen here talking with West Country TV. This is all part of making improvements for the less able in the village also and compliments the addition of Braille to the recent beach sign in the main car park at Porthtowan.
